What is Flash Fiction?
Flash Fiction is simply very short prose pieces, generally defined as being 1000 words or less. The word limits for Flash Fiction Month are 55 words minimum, to 1000 words maximum.
What is Flash Fiction Month all about?
Flash Fiction Month is an annual community writing event, run in July (on the deviantArt website), in which participants write one piece of flash fiction every day for a month. Every day we will post prompts to help kick-start your creativity, as well as optional weekly challenges (and prizes!) for those of you who like a little competition.
Do I have to write every day?
Yes. No. Whatever you can manage - we at FFM realise that life can get busy, so we understand that some people may not be able to write a 1000-word story every day. But c'mon - it's flash fiction! We think a three-a-week minimum is a reasonable expectation, considering you can write three 55-worders, if you like.
However we do hope you'll give the full FFM experience a try. It can be difficult, but we guarantee you'll reach the end of the month a better writer, and ideally you'll have had some fun, and made some new friends along the way.

How do I join?
Simple, just become a member of FlashFictionMonth, and be sure to watch our founding account Flash-Fic-Month on https://www.deviantart.com/flash-fic-month in order to receive the daily prompts and challenges.
To make your commitment official, let us know you're participating on the yearly Sign-Up Page, and make sure you follow the submission guidelines where the group and daily prompt pages are concerned.
You don't have to be a member of the group to participate, or even a member of deviantART, but in our humble opinion at least 99.9% of the fun during FFM comes from interacting with other participants over the course of the month in places like our Official Chatroom, and we strongly encourage you to join in as much as you can.

How do I submit my Flash Fiction?
Make sure you're a member of FlashFictionMonth, and when you upload your daily offering of flash fiction to deviantART just remember to submit it to the relevant group gallery folder (e.g. FFM 2016) so that all the other participants, and followers of FFM can see your work.
Each day over the course of July, Flash-Fic-Month will submit a new deviation, containing the daily prompts/challenges. This is also the place to which you should LINK your daily work, in the COMMENTS section. This is especially necessary for those of you who wish to take part in the Challenges and be eligible for prizes, as we use the link-deviations to keep track of the overall submissions for the month.
If you're still confused about how things work or have any other questions about Flash Fiction Month, just send us a note at either FlashFictionMonth or Flash-Fic-Month and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
